About natives.africa

A small newsroom, a smaller shop, and a continent of stories to tell.

natives.africa began with a frustration: most stories about Africa are still written for people who don't live here. We wanted a place that reverses that — where the byline, the gaze, and the editing are all native.

We publish slowly. A few stories a month, fact-checked twice, photographed properly. Reporters are paid above market rate, in their own currency, on time.

The shop exists to fund the newsroom. Every tee, tote, print, and ceramic is tied to a specific story — and 100% of profit goes back into commissioning the next one.
